President's Letter

September 2010

With September on the horizon again, we prepare for another successful and dynamic year for the Maplewood Garden Club. Our members have been busy with preparations to make this the best year ever.

Judy Cronin and her Program Committee have a varied and interesting lineup of speakers – from design to viticulture to Hellebores to Floral Design – there should be something for everyone.

Speaking of meetings – our first meeting is Monday, September 13 at 7:30 PM. This meeting will be held at the
Wyoming Presbyterian Church, Fellowship Hall, 432 Wyoming Ave., Millburn. Because the library is undergoing a construction project, we are unable to use our old facilities. Please make a note of this change.

To our floral and horticultural exhibitors: please have your items in place at 7:00 PM.  Judging will start at 7:15 and end by 7:45.  We will have the results announced before the speaker begins – which will be approximately at 8:00.

Ellie Winslow is tirelessly working on our yearbook. This is a lot of work, but it will be a great resource for the membership and will include meeting dates, speaker information, and exhibit schedules. Also included is our roster of members with names, addresses, and phone numbers. Any changes should be directed to Ellie.

I am looking forward to a great year with the Garden Club. We have a lot of talent in our club and I hope that all members can become involved in some area that interests them.  Take a trip with Ellie Winslow or work on our various gardens with Liz, Sharon, or the Nials. Get involved in our fund-raiser, the plant sale, in May. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. Also, don’t forget our “fun” raisers, including wreath making and decorating the RR station in December and workshops throughout the year.  There are many ways to get involved and make friends while you’re at it!

Enjoy the last days of summer and we’ll meet again in September.
